Downlands, Haywards Heath
We assisted a national care home provider with a planning application for the redevelopment of the existing Downlands Park Care Home. The development proposals involved the demolition of the existing facility to provide a fit-for-purpose retirement living block with a 70 bedroom care home and 15 retirement cottages and access to form a Continuing Care Retirement Community. Taking into account the anticipated age profile of future residents, shared cycle / mobility scooter parking was provided throughout the site, in addition to a minibus drop off, delivery bay and ambulance bay.
In addition to the preparation of a Transport Assessment, we provided justification to support car parking and mobility scooter parking using operator information and established staff travel patterns. On-site amenities were provided, including an on-site car club and a resident minibus service.
The application is currently pending consideration, however WSCC’s response states they have no concerns with the proposals and are “satisfied with the parking element of the proposals”.
